Rumli track Islamabad is situated behind Quaid-e-Azam University. Rumli is a village of Islamabad surrounded by several small villages, Shahdara to its east and Bari Imam to its west. For nature lovers, this place offers some nice spots to relax and for taking long walks and hikes. It has natural beauty as well as a small water stream that is still functional.
Rumli track Islamabad starting point
Starting from back side of Quaid-e-Azam University, a proper board is installed with the name “Rumli”. This point serves as starting of the track. Going straight on this road will take you to Rumli village.
First turn on Rumli track
After some 500 meters on the road to Rumli village, a mosque appears on the left-hand side facing north. Taking left turn from the mosque would take you towards Bari Imam village.
The village is like any other small village having basic general store, goats, cows, and few homes on the way. As a cultural norm of the area, it is recommended to avoid loud music and unnecessary stopover in front of homes.
Passing the village of Bari Imam crossing some big boulders one touches the concrete road.
Bari Imam village through Rumli track Islamabad:
On a rugged terrain from Rumli track heading towards west lies Bari Imam village. This passage is bit confusing having multiple paths; basic rule of thumb is to keep towards the hill side.
Enroute towards Bari Imam village one can witness some local shops selling general items including water bottle, biscuits, snacks, cola drinks etc. This village serves as the last option to buy anything for your bag pack if you’re missing something out.

Sugarcane candy shop in Bari Imam village is one of the main attractions that catches the attention of any hiker going out on a long journey.

First resting spot on Rumli track Islamabad
Spending couple of hours navigating through rugged and concrete terrain with substantial elevation gain one reaches an open area with few abandoned structures.
This place serves as the first resting point for hikers going towards Pir Sohawa via Rumli track. A short break of 15 minutes is recommended to sip some water and fuel up energy levels for some intense hike on a narrow rocky terrain.
Mosque and meditation site near Bruti top
From the first resting point 60 – 90 minutes of extreme endurance with high-end navigational skills are required to reach mosque and meditation site of Bruti top. Few minutes of stay at this point is calming and relaxing.
Having a cup of tea at this point is not a bad idea. Be mindful of the fact that firing up of wood is not allowed in jurisdiction of Margalla Hills National Park. Carrying a portable stove with camper gas and other necessary items in the bag pack is recommended.
The open area beside the mosque is the meditation site to practice yoga poses along with breathing meditation exercises. Blend of spiritual awakening with heightened senses after a long rigorous hike is a divine experience.

Last leg of Rumli track Islamabad:
After Bruti top the last leg of the hike is on concrete track. This section of the hike gives clear valley views with euphoria of standing at the top knowing the target is just within reach.
30 minutes of hiking on concrete track with moderate elevation gain, one touches the pir sohawa road with ‘Isloo Grill restaurant’ and few shops in the vicinity.
Exit of Rumli track Islamabad
Islamabad – KPK boundary (district Haripur) is the final exit of Rumli track Islamabad. A pass is established with details mentioned by district authority.
There are few cafés in the area where can one have lunch, snacks, tea, coffee etc. Peaceful ambience sitting at the rooftop with mountain ridges in sight is blissful and relaxing for your nerves.
Tilla Charouni top from café at Pir Sohawa road:
Highest point of Margalla hills ‘Tilla Charouni’ standing at 1604 meters is visible from the rooftop terrace on a bright sunny day with no hazy conditions. Hikers can opt further hiking to reach the highest point which is 90 – 120 minutes from the café on pir sohawa road. It is absolutely a personal choice to conclude the hike at rumli track exit or continue further.

Sunset from Bruti top on return journey:
Starting return journey well before sunset is a good choice to witness some miraculous scenes of evening shades from mountain tops. Winter sunset having deep orange, yellow and mustard shade is like a painting over the canvas. Spending few minutes watching the sunset hues is icing on the cake.
Be mindful that return journey from pir sohawa road to Rumli village is almost 150 – 180 minutes of decline hike passing through narrow rocky terrain. Losing the path in poor lighting conditions could pose a serious risk, so better start returning keeping in mind the sunset time at Bruti top. This area is almost at the halfway point of return journey.
Conclusion:
Rumli track Islamabad within the city limits of ICT is a nice hiking spot for nature lovers and tourists to explore the beauty of Margalla Hills. The area being associated with well know sufi saint known as ‘Bari Imam’ gives your hike a touch of mystic experience. As the complete track is almost 25 kms, it is recommended to start early morning providing you enough time to complete the hike in daylight.
